The Near Sighted Wizard

Assignment in Creating Video Games. Spring 2019 @ MIT. Group Project

With the goal of creating an educational game to teach probability and statistics to middle/high schoolers, we started with the concept of a probability driven RPG style battle system, and built a turn based role playing game around that core mechanic. You play as a near sighted wizard who has lost his glasses, and subsequently have to fight his way through different areas with different probability distributions of enemies. The game is in a pixel art style, both as an homage to the early RPGs of the 80s and 90s, like Zelda and Pokémon, and to underscore that the wizard really has very poor vision.

The class was equally much a project management class, where we worked in increasingly large teams using scrum sprints, as it was a video game creation class.

The game can be found here: https://www.mit.edu/~avman/Build4/index.html - It is highly recommended to start with the tutorial mode turned on.
